Production

Technology description

All the composite components of the yacht are manufactured by means of the vacuum infusion technology.

Lately, vacuum technology has gained recognition in particular in manufacturing large dimension products, such as wind turbine blades or watercraft. The production process is as follows: the mould is filled with all the reinforcement structure, which may take the form of fibres (glass, aramide, carbon), the core in the form of foam panels, and the internal reinforcement.

Then, the feeding and suction channel mesh is created, and then, all the structure is enclosed with a foil, sealed at the mould flange. By means of a vacuum pump, all the air is evacuated. Now, the system is ready for resin injection. Resin starts to flow through feeding pipes into the cavity between the mould and the foil. In its passage, resin fills all the cavities and impregnates the fibres, which, together with the foamy components, form a compact sandwich structure.

Major advantages of the vacuum infusion technology include:

  • resulting defined overall structure of the product
  • monolith products, as the manufacture is performed in a single step, without discontinuities
  • lower product weight and higher stiffness
  • minimised emissions into the environment due to the closed-cycle process
  • reduced risk of human error, higher laminate structure quality
